About The Club

Wingham Golf Club was founded on 7 August 1914, and the original ‘golf links’ was situated at Wingham Racecourse.  The founding President was well known local identity, Dr Kelly.

Throughout the course of its proud history, Wingham Golf Club has been situated at five different locations. Firstly, the Wingham Racecourse, secondly, ‘Gollans Paddock’ on Wingham Road, and then ‘Walsh’s Paddock’ adjoining the Wingham Showground. Prior to World War 2, the Club moved back to ‘Gollans Paddock’ where it remained until 1953.

The Club had never owned its own course, and as it was not possible to buy ‘Gollans Paddock’, the Board of Directors decided that it should purchase suitable land so permanent improvements like a proper Clubhouse and a watering system could be constructed. More importantly, it also meant that the course would no longer have cattle grazing on it! Various sites were inspected and eventually, the present land was purchased from the Summerville family, and play commenced on 28 March 1953.

Today, the Club is not just about golf. Wingham Golf Club provides a social, family experience for all members of the community. The kids can sit in the lounge area with the other members of their family, Caddies Restaurant continues to provide quality meals and shortly, the Club will complete a major refurbishment of the lounge area, poker machine room, restaurant and function areas.
